Terahertz microprobes
from Aachen.

Protemics is a spin-off of AMO GmbH and the Institute of Semiconductor Electronics at RWTH Aachen University. We develop and build photoconductive THz near-field probes, the systems around them, and the measurements that put them to work.

Mission

Measurement solutions, not just components.

Our products and services build on pioneering technology: ultrafast photoconductive THz microprobes for non-destructive testing. What our mission means in practice:

01

Innovative

We develop the core technology ourselves — from probe design and semiconductor processing to systems and data analysis — and continuously extend our patent portfolio.

02

Powerful

Products with world-leading performance: THz near-field detection with spatial resolution far below the wavelength, on wafers, chips and in on-chip spectroscopy.

03

Customer-oriented

Custom-oriented products and services with short turnaround times — from a single probe to a configured system or a measurement on your own sample.

About us

Two decades of THz research, one company.

Protemics GmbH was founded in 2014 as a spin-off of the research company AMO GmbH and the Institute of Semiconductor Electronics (IHT) of RWTH Aachen University, building on more than two decades of Terahertz technology research. Protemics has exclusively licensed several patents covering the core technology and keeps extending its own patent portfolio.

Team

Interdisciplinary

Specialists in Terahertz technology, semiconductor processing, optoelectronic system and software design, application engineering and business development.

Facilities

Cleanroom and optical lab

In-house access to a 400 m² cleanroom for semiconductor device fabrication and analytic inspection. THz measurement services, system and product tests run in our optical laboratory.

Working areas

From design to application

  • Design of THz systems, microprobes, emitters and detectors, optical and mechanical components
  • Fabrication of semiconductor-based THz microprobe devices
  • Device testing and THz imaging system fabrication
  • Application development and THz measurement studies
